Australia is looks to migrants as a solution for its skills shortage. Almost every skilled profession is in great demand. A growing economy means that new workers are welcomed to the country at an approximate rate of 158 per day.According to the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA), over 58,000 workers came to Australia on temporary or permanent visas during the past year. Over 7700 workers made Western Australia their new home, approximately 8200 went to Queensland, almost 12,000 went to Victoria, while over 23,000 newcomers chose New South Wales. The skills of newcomers are needed to help offset Australia's growing skilled labour shortage.
